Crating
Red Hook Crating is a leading source of crates and packing services to museums, galleries, auction houses, collectors, foundations and artists. We are familiar with the gamut of packing challenges and we produce a menu of services and product types to fit a wide spectrum of demands.
At the top of our product line, we fabricate thermally insulated museum style crates with bolt-plate closures, vapor barriers, durable coatings and reusable packing solutions. For galleries and collectors, we produce sturdy, reliable, crates with practical packing solutions that exceed industry standards. For lower value objects that must be handled on a tight budget, we have a tidy line of basic crates that will keep your artwork safe. We are also happy to build and pack to your specifications should you have your own requirements.
Our administrative support is excellent so you will get a competitive crating quote quickly, a clear and accurate packing list and a crate list with exact shipping dimensions. Red Hook is a TSA Certified Cargo Screening Facility (CCSF). All of our crates are compliant with International Standards for Packing Materials (ISPM 15). Unlike many of our competitors who see crating as a means to sell other services, we are first and foremost a crating company and it shows.
Transport
Red Hook Crating operates five art-specification, box trucks and a customized, climate-controlled Sprinter. Our box trucks are all equipped with large platform lift-gates, climate control, air-ride suspensions, abundant rows of e-track and GPS tracking devices. Our vehicles are manned by dual-driver teams that cross-train in our pack shop and can effectively handle a wide range of packing, unpacking and installation challenges.
Our primary service areas are the New York Tri-State region and the northeast US. At our warehouse, our trucks dock and load in our fully enclosed loading bays. We exclusively carry art work, antiquities and antiques. Red Hook Crating is a one stop shop that can pick up your art work, pack and deliver it safely, or release it for transshipment.
Storage
Red Hook Crating provides secure, temperature-controlled storage in our Long Island City warehouse. Our facility is secured with an electronic access control system and mechanical locks. It is equipped with video cameras throughout and it is monitored 24/7 through a centrally controlled alarm system. We offer private rooms and open storage with the option of full climate control. Active clients who require packing and/or transit services can increase convenience while achieving costs saving by storing with us.
Installation
Red Hook Crating has an experienced team of installers who can adeptly handle a wide range of art objects and site conditions. Whether you need a team to assemble and place a large sculptural exhibition or are just looking to hang a single painting in your home, we fit the bill. Our installers are familiar with all the common types of installation hardware and techniques and many of the not so common types too! Detail oriented and accustomed to working in challenging conditions with heavy and fragile works, Red Hook’s installers will install your artwork safely and securely.
